Avoiding Olympics rental accommodation scams

Sadly, the Olympics also attracts its share of scams, the type of which haunt any event of this scale. Fortunately though, judging from "noise" online, the authorities and others are doing a good job of disseminating the information and making sure visitors aware of the risks.

Of course these rental scams are nothing new. However it may well be that a higher percentage of those looking for accommodation during the Olympics, are less initiated to online dealings and therefore more vulnerable to online scams. In addition, the fact that people are travelling from afar will of course mean that in most cases a viewing just isn't practical. In these cases added vigilance and checks will have to replace verification in person.

We've done some research and looked at the implication for people using the Olympics Accommodation Site. The outcome are few notes on how better to stay safe and avoid rental scams, in particular on the OAS, but also more widely online. Whether your advertising or seeking accommodation, please spend a few moments to have a look at Staying Safe and Avoiding Rental Scams.

We would appreciate any comments or feedback, expecially ways to enhance the notes. If you have ideas, please comment below.
