Thailand to welcome Olympics 'Refugees'

With thousands of Londoners and other Britons looking to leave the UK during the Olympic period, tourism authorities are getting ready to seduce those wishing to escape. Thailand, already a popular holiday destination amongst Britons, is preparing a special Thailand Longstay Summer 2012 campaign.

According to Siripakorn Cheawsamoot, director of the TAT's UK Office, "This is an opportunity to offer them a two- or three-week trip in Thailand". Mr Siripakorn said demand in London was pushing up hotel room rates by two or three times normal levels.

With accommodation prices soaring and many Londoners renting out their homes as Olympic accommodation, the TAT hopes people will use that cash to opt for an overseas holiday. Mr Siripakorn said the TAT was confident its longstay tourism campaign would lure people from the UK, and forecasts an additional 15,000 UK visitors during this summer.

If you have never been to Southeast Asia, fancy some sun, fantastic beaches, age-old culture and exotic foods, Thailand offers a great destination! Where will you be during the Olympics?
